Child travelling with an adult under 26

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 daughters aged 15 and 18 travelling to Switzerland at the beginning of August.

I intend to buy a “Saver Day Pass” for us as parents but I’m not quite sure how to deal with the daughters if we only need one-day ticket.

1) Can I buy a “Friends Day Pass” for CHF 80 for both of them?

2) Or is it possible to buy a “Children’s Day Pass” or rather “Childrens’ Day Co-travellcard” for the 15-yr-old daughter and a “Tandem Day Pass” for the older one? CHF 50 altogether?

Any other solutions possible?

Your travel plans are what it all depends on. It is advisable to first plan your trips, and as the last step of the planning process, to consider the tickets or travel passes. If you plan to take a few mountain trips, the Swiss Half Fare Card is indispensable for adults, it saves you a lot of money.

The Saver Day Pass is certainly an option, but sometimes a conventional point-to-point ticket would do as well.

Saver Day Pass – book earlier, travel cheaper | SBB

For individuals who are 15 years of age, it is possible to purchase the Children Day Pass, provided that the trip is for a single day. If you are embarking on multiple journeys, it is advisable to buy the Junior-Card from the SBB Travel Center. If you purchase the Swiss Half Fare Card for adults, then the Swiss Family Card is offered complimentary. This entitles your 15-year-old to travel free of charge when accompanied by you. The 16 years old equals the adult, there is no special discount. The Tandem ticket is not available to you.

Alternatively, you can buy the Swiss Travel Passes for the adults, and Swiss Travel Pass Youth for your 16 years old. Again, the complimentary Swiss Family Card entitles the 15 years old to travel free of charge when travelling with you. The Swiss Family Card is only offered when buying the Swiss Half Fare Card or a Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Travel Pass Flex.

We only come to Switzerland for a short stay. We come with the car from Italy and plan one intense visiting day in Switzerland (incl. Luzern, Bern, Interlaken, Grindelwald). That is why 1-day-ticket seems most suitable.

As Saver Day Pass is already quite expensive (I should have bought it earlier on!), can I buy Friends Day Pass for 2 girls (as both are below 25)?

I see.

Well, to see Lucerne, Bern, Interlaken, and Grindelwald in one day is impossible. Skip Interlaken, as it is rather a public transport hub and not a must-see; it is neither in the mountains nor at the lake. You should focus on either Lucerne and Grindelwald, or Grindelwald and Bern. Even visiting two places in one day is logistically and time-wise a challenge. You have to cross the mountains and this is time-consuming.

You can buy the Friends Day Pass, of course. Keep in mind that neither the Saver Day Pass nor the Friends Day Pass will grant any discount or free access to cable cars.
