I received a letter with a payment slip to renew my Halbtax but the letter also said that if I don’t cancel the subscription by 12.05, it is automatically renewed. So do I have to process the payment slip or just leave it to be automatically renewed? I am wondering why the SBB sent me the payment slip.

Luecousou82 Not sure why you’re asking the last question above… are you maybe expecting the renewed/following year to be free of charge?

This will happen if you don’t take any action and ignore the obtained payment slip: You’ll get new payment slips from SBB with extra reminder fees, and after a while some other payment slips from a debt collection agency with even more additional fees…

So should you intend to renew your subscription, the smartest and easiest way is simply to pay those 170 bucks within due date with that obtained payment slip. Otherwise, simply cancel it timely as indicated.

RedBaron Thanks for the response. I will take your advice and pay using the payment slip. However, I still don’t understand why they sent it if they automatically renew the subscription if I don’t cancel.

Luecousou82 How would you pay the outstanding following subscription year otherwise?
Yes, you may alternatively queue up at some SBB counter and pay there instead (the letter should state this option), but for the majority of people, using that payment slip should be the most straightforward way for settling the dues.

I think last year I let them automatically renew it and then received a second invoice. I wondered why it was less this year. There’s one born every minute. Cheers.

Luecousou82 Until end of last year, the initial price for the 1st year subscription used to be 185.00, and 165.00 “loyalty price” per subsequent year.
Now it’s 190.00 for the 1st year and 170.00 for subsequent 1y renewals.

So if (as you stated) your last year’s paid renewal invoice was really higher than this year’s, that would obviously mean that you already paid some included reminder fee (more than 5.00) with that 2nd invoice… 😉
