Berner Oberland Pass vs Swiss Family Card for Children

We will have 4 Half fare cards and 4 Berner Oberland passes (BOP).
Not planning to buy any BOP for my son (<16 yrs).
Can I use Swiss family Card (will get it with Half fare card free of charge) for my son (to get free travel) when we travel using BOP (free travel)?
In other words, is the Swiss family card ONLY valid with tickets purchased with Half fare card?

The combination of Bernese Oberland Pass (BOP) and Swiss Half Fare Card is a perfect fit. You will benefit from the reduced fare for the pass. And, the Swiss Family Card is also valid when using the BOP.

Thanks Ronald. The catch is I dont want to buy the BOP for my son.
The question is when I am using BOP for any ride/travel, can my son join me free of cost in the ride with Swiss family card (he does not have his own BOP)?
For example with BOP, we 4 adults in our family will take free Brienz boat tour.
5th person in our family, my son will ride with us and can I use Swiss family card for this free ride?

We are on the same page, sorry if i wasn’t clear enough; yes, your son can use the Swiss Family Card while you as parent travel on the BOP & Swiss Half Fare Card.

No BOP is needed for your son; the Swiss Family Card is his ticket.

It is also stated in the BOP FAQ if you were looking for a written evidence.
