Question on Swiss Travel Pass - day use

I am looking to buy a Swiss Travel Pass for 6 days (flex). I understand that the Swiss Travel Pass does not cover the ticket (Top of Europe) from Grinderwald to Jungfraujoch -and that separate ticket is needed. The fact I have a Swiss Travel Pass would entitle me to a discount on the separate ticket. The question I have is if I am to use the Swiss Travel Pass (solely for the purpose of buying the separate ticket) and not for intercity travelling, would that count as using 1-day of Swiss Travel Pass?

So for example, from Day 1 I would use Swiss Travel Pass to go from Interlaken to Grinderwald, for Day 2 I would begin my journey from Grinderwald to Top of Europe (without taking any SBB train), but I would need to use my Swiss Travel Pass to buy the separate discount ticket. Would Day 2 constitute 1-day of use out of my 6-day Swiss Travel Pass? I think the answer is no, but I would be grateful if someone can confirm. I have tried to ascertain the position from live agent but no answer was given

In my opinion, the Swiss Travel Pass Flex is only worth if it is a 15-day pass. For shorter stays, it is too expensive compared to other ticket options.

I would rather opt for the Swiss Half Fare Cards plus Point-to-point tickets or Saver Day Passes, what ever is less costly. The latter is, nevertheless, not valid for a Jungfraujoch visit.

For example, the Swiss Half Fare Card grants 50% on the individual Jungfraujoch ticket, while the Swiss Travel Pass Flex grants 25% only, plus you have to use one of the costly days from your pass just to benefit from the 25% reduction - not very economic.

Hi Roland,

I want to ask if you know whether do I have to activate the Swiss Travel Pass to get the 25% off (aka it will counts towards a day in the Swiss Travel Pass Flex)? Or if I can just show them that I have purchased the Swiss Travel Pass and I will get the 25% discount (I dont have to use the Swiss Travel Pass on that day). Thanks.

That’s what I just said in my first reply:
The Swiss Travel Pass Flex is useless on non-activated days. To benefit from discounts, you must activate a day; thus you will spend a Swiss Travel Pass Flex day plus, you still have to purchase a 75% ticket for the Jungfraujoch - very costly.
