Train Journey from Zermatt to Bolzano/Bozen

We will be taking the train from Zermatt to Bolzano/Bozen on Aug. 8th and I have a couple of questions about the buying tickets for this trip at sbb.ch.

The fastest option takes us via Brig, Domodossola and Milano Centrale. However, the schedule says that the train service will be interrupted between Domodossola and Milano Centrale due to construction work and that we should use a replacement bus service. Do I have to purchase tickets for this bus service separately or is it all included in the train ticket I buy at SBB?

We will be using the Half-Fare Card for our train trips in Switzerland. I presume that it will still be applicable for the Swiss potion of this trip, correct? Also, HFC allows children under 16 to travel free (when accompanied by a parent) but the age limit for children in Italy is 15 & under. Will the discounts be properly applied when we purchase tickets for the whole trip via SBB?

Thank you for your enquiry.

Train services between Domodossola and Milano Centrale have been interrupted due to construction work and a replacement bus service has been organised. The same tickets are valid for the bus as for the train.
Your Half-Fare travelcard is valid for the Swiss part of the journey, but not for the Italian part. You pay the full price for the Italian part of the trip and the discounts are applied to the Swiss part in the webshop.

As far as child discounts are concerned, it is correct that children under the age of 16 can travel free of charge in Switzerland if they are accompanied by a parent. In Italy, however, the age limit is 15 years and under. If you buy a ticket for the entire journey via SBB, the discounts will be applied accordingly and you will have to pay the full fare for the child in Italy.
