Swiss Half Fare Card - Booking Train Tickets with Child

Hello,

I’m planning a wonderful 7-day family trip to Switzerland this August for 3 of us: 2 adults and our 9-year-old child. We’ll be getting the Swiss Half Fare Card for both adults and the Family Card.

My question is about booking tickets on the SBB website. When I search for fares, will the price automatically be discounted for the Swiss Half Fare Card holders? Also, when traveling together, should I select 3 passengers when booking, or just 2 adults since our child travels for free with the Family Card?

Further, I’d like to know if above conditions applies for both 1st class and 2nd class ticket purchase?

The Swiss Half Fare Card entitles you to purchase an unlimited number of half-price tickets for all routes marked with a solid or dashed line on the area of validity map.

If you want to buy tickets at SBB.ch, you can do so as a guest. You can then select under “Discount cards” that you are traveling with a Half Fare Travelcard. The price will then be displayed automatically for both carriage classes.

About the Swiss Family Card: Children up to their 16th birthday travel free of charge throughout Switzerland when accompanied by at least one parent with a Swiss Half Fare Card. It is not necessary to indicate this when purchasing normal route tickets. You can find more information about the Swiss Family Card here.
