Geneva - Annecy - Geneva

Hello,
I’m looking for direct trains from Geneva to Annecy for Sunday August 11, but I couldn’t find any in the morning until 11.47am which is a bit late to our liking. Do you think that there will be more direct trains released when the time is near? Cause I see there are many for early August.

For our plan B, we will have to take connecting train/bus route, such as, Geneva to Lancy-Bachet, then 5 minute walk to Lancy-Bachet, gare for bus B272 to Annecy, Gare routiere. From Google Maps, it shows that it’s about 10 minute walk to Palais de L’Isle. I hope that is right. Please anyone had the experience can confirm.

Departure 11.47 should be the first train for Annecy on 11th of August. You can follow information in SBB application for earlier replacement services to Annecy.

I suggest to take the bus from Lancy-Pont-Rouge, its station of departure, and to arrive in advance, with the train, the tram or the bus from you hotel. You will have more time to find the right bus.

Thiengairrue73 I found another alternative. You can take the tram 17 until Annemasse, Parc Montessuit and walk about 750 m to Annemasse station. You have direct trains from Annemasse to Annecy every hour.

This is a local commuter train service. So there is no need to buy tickets in advance.
My guess is that on the 11th there is engineering going on, and SNCF likes to just close a line for a few hours and tell its customers to just stay home…

So you will probably have to take that bus.

Krist The railway line is closed between Chêne-Bourg and Annemasse until 11 am, but I don’t know if it is due to the SBB or to the SNCF.

Thank you for all the suggestions. We’re taking the train from Vevey to Geneva early morning. Hoping to hop on a train in the station to Annecy to stay for a couple of hours, and ride the train back in Geneva for more sightseeing and go back to Vevey. It’s certainly a stretch but we hope to do as much as possible since we only have 1 day in the area…Maybe we’re too ambitious? Anyone to discourage this plan?

I’m leaning towards to Geneva - Lancy-Bachet, walk 5 minutes to Lancy-Bachet, gare for bus B272 to Annecy Gare routiere. Does anyone know Annecy Gare Routiere is close to Palais de L’Isle, which we really want to see?

Thiengairrue73 The Gare Routière (bus station) in Annecy is near the railway station. Google Maps indicate 750 m / 10 min to walk to the Palais de l’Île.

I don’t discourage this plan, the return trip will be better with direct trains from Annecy to Geneva and from Geneva to Vevey.

Otherwise, since it’s a Sunday, I don’t know if there are much to do/see in Geneva?

Thiengairrue73 In Geneva you can see the “vieille ville” (old city) and the “jet d’eau” (water jet). I would recommend the “Maison Tavel”, the cathedral and the “Musée d’art et d’histoire”.
