Can we, a family of 4 arriving from Interlaken West at 1 am, wait inside the Zurich HB train station to catch our connecting ride at 7 am?

No, the station is closed between 01:30am and about 04:00am, in order to prevent vandalism etc. Not the best time of the day for hanging around with a family there anyway.

I’m sure there are better connection options to your final destination.

Why do you arrive at 1 a.m. in the morning from Interlaken West? Your trip planning has got a serious issue, we should fix that.

RolandP Hello. Thank you for your reply and your concern. Actually, as holders of Swiss Travel Pass we plan to get to a panoramic train ride from Chur to Milan by Bernina Express upon early afternoon conclusion of our Interlaken/Grindelwald visit. As the Zurich-Chur 7 am trip, we can avoid a late afternoon/early evening Milan arrival as we are non-European natives having a short family European holiday. Any help regarding this issue will be highly appreciated. Similarly, can you advise as well if we have to get the Chur-Milan ticket in Zurich HB or we have to get it from Chur train station as I have found out its another train railway company operating that route (Trenitalia?)

Stations are not intended for hanging around it for a long time. People are expected to only have minutes between trains, not hours. There is something seriously wrong with your trip plan.
What is your destination?

Krist Hi. Thanks a lot for your reply and valuable info. We are heading to Milan and planning to take the panoramic train ride Bernina Express for once in a lifetime travel experience. We are Swiss Travel Pass holders and non-European natives that will be having a short family European holiday and Italy will be our final state. Any suggestion of Interlaken-Zurich-Milan trip plan with a panoramic train ride? Or should we abandon the idea and simply hop-in to a normal speed train?

I like your idea travelling from Interlaken to Milano via Bernina Express. But you should check ideas with realty of timetables and validty of your Swiss Pass. I think your dream is possible, leaving Interlaken at 6.35, via Zurich - Chur - Bernina - Tirano to Colico, and connecting train Trenitalia to Milano. It is not Bernina Express but all trains of Rhaetian Railways are comfortable. Please ask your family if they agree with you for this day time journey😉

With a Swiss Travel Pass you would only need a Tirano - Milano ticket, and that you can buy in Zurich, but I would expect it to be cheaper in Tirano,

However, how do you expect to be able to enjoy the Bernina Railway after having spend a whole night staying awake? Do not do this.

If you want to travel the Bernina Railway just travel to Chur the day before, spend the night there, and continue in the morning. Unless you really want to experience what it is like to be homeless in Switzerland…

Anyways, I really appreciate sharing your valuable time to reply. Venturing into unfamiliar places (should be SAFE as well) and to experience the organic culture of the people is one thing we are looking forward to.

Be aware that if you take the normal route from Interlaken to Milano you will also need an additional ticket, as your STP obviously is not valid outside of Switzerland, If you take the Interlaken - Spiez - Domodossola - Milano route you need a ticket Domodossola - Milano, and if you take the Inerlaken - Luzern - Lugano - Milano route you need a ticket Chiasso - Milano.
