unless it was explicitely purchased as an ‘single and return’ ticket.

Yes, it does; see the arrow(s) in the ticket title that are changing between the destinations accordingly, depending whether you choose a single or a single and return ticket. After purchase it also reads it in the ticket details.
Consequently, a Romont to Bern single ticket is valid for 1 travel from Romont to Bern. It is neither a zone-based ticket nor a Day Pass.
