Questions on 3-day Swiss Travel Pass

I will be traveling with my friend in Switzerland and staying overnight in Lucerne with my friend. I am unfamiliar with the Swiss travel pass, and travel passes in general and have a few questions. I have heard from a friend that the travel pass does not cover travels to Grindelwald, which raised questions about my day excursions out of Lucerne to Kandersteg or Lauterbrunnen. Does the 3-day travel pass guarantee free travel by train from Lucerne to Kandersteg and Lauterbrunnen? Also, will I be able to reserve date/time for tickets free of charge in advance and “log it” onto my swiss travel pass? Or will I have to make ticket purchases at the time/day of travel? The Swiss Travel Pass offers free train travel from Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen.
Kandersteg is generally covered by the Swiss Travel Pass, but specific confirmation is recommended. Check the validity map here.

Reservations:
Reservations are not included in the Swiss Travel Pass and need to be made separately, often with additional costs.

Ticket Purchase:
