Advise on how to book train from Milan to Geneva

Hi everyone,

I am planning to book train tickets for a group of people from Milan to Geneva on 18th of December via the website. However, the tickets are not available for sale as per the attached image. I tried to change the booking date, however the only train tickets available for now that is the closest to my initial date is on the 14th. If I change the booking date from 15th onwards, the website will pop up the message as per the image. Does SBB do not sell the tickets starting from 15th onwards or are they releasing it at a later date? How long do I have to wait before I can book them. Please advise since I am not familiar with how swiss train works 😰

Sorry for SBB.ch i don’t understand missing informations about opening of ticket sales for depatures from 15. 12. 2024. Many Eurocity trains via Chiasso are sold out for departurs 20th decembre. Probably Trenitalia will open soon ticket sales via Dommodossola. So just try every morning at treniatila.com. May be it it is a good idea to ask at a travelcenter for advices travelling with groups.

You cannot book this train yet. Wait a few weeks and try again. And for Milano - Geneva I would book with Trenitalia. However do not book on Trenitalia yet, as they do not have the direct ECs available yet either, and show you solutions involving a huge detour that doubles the travel time.

Message to SBB: Please, please, get rid of this error message. This is one of the worst examples of UI design and lack of interest in the customer I know of.

If it is to early to book a train, just say so. The message should simple be “it is to early to book, come back on dd.mm.yyyy”.

I doubt that many trains on december 20th are sold out. They are just not open for reservation yet and the system is not very good at communicating this…

I agree, but if you prefer travelling with smart price tickets, you should book soon.

one more question, once the ticket is released, will the price be the same as other dates or it will be a bit higher since it is nearing christmas?

Tickets should be released soon, but with Trenitalia it is sometimes relatively late. Anyway, December is still 2 months away.
