Curious about Saver Day Pass

Hello, we are a family of four traveling to Switzerland in late April. We were wondering about the Saver Day Pass. With the Saver Day Pass, we cannot make reservations for our routes (Luzern to Bern, Bern to Thun, Thun to Spiez, Spiez to Zermatt, and Zermatt to Luzern). Should we be worried about no seats being available on these trains? Thank you!! 🙂

Your conclusion is mistaken.
Even with a Saver Day Pass you could make seat reservations as they are fully optional, no matter the ticket you hold. With a regular point-to-point ticket you can take any train. Thus, point-to-point tickets do not come with a seat assignment either.

As a family with children of 6-15 years of age, I strongly recommend the Swiss Half Fare Card (incl. complimentary Swiss Family Card for the kids) for the parents, or at least the Junior Card for the kids. The latter is available for tourists as well.

The reason for not possible reservations is never the Saver Day Pass as such, there’s no difference to other types of tickets/passes, such as point-to-point tickets. Either reservations are generally not possible at all on the train type in question (with SBB only possible on IC or EC connections, in such cases the reservation is offered as a separate ticket add-on at the bottom of the screen), or they must be booked on the train operator’s website in the case of the PE Interlaken-Luzern leg.
Generally, only a few coaches have reserved seats at all. Reservations are so uncommon, that we residents are not used to check whether a seat is reserved before sitting down (i.e. someone will likely already be sitting on your reserved seat by mistake). Trains are public mass transit here, it’s not like airline travel.
