DayPass 1st Class- can child travel for free?

Hello, I’m looking for advise on the DayPass. We plan on traveling from Lucern to Bern with a stopover for a couple of hours around Interlaken and then the same day from Bern to Lucern in the evening. Based on what I researched, DayPass would be the best option for our family. When purchasing a Day Pass I don’t see an option for kids. We are getting 2 adult 1st class tickets - can a 12 year old child travel for free and what pass do I need to get? Also, can I still reserve seats with this DayPass to ensure we’re on the right side of the train for panorama? Thank you so much for your guidance!

A child of 12 years needs their own ticket at half fare, or a Chile Day Pass, or the Junior Card, or the Swiss Family Card (if you as parent hold the Swiss Half Fare Card).

RolandP Upon more research, I decided to get a 3 day Pass instead. I wanted to ask if you know how I can get a reservation on the Interlaken Express to ensure all 3 of us have panorama view. When I tried to reserve on SBB it’s giving me 3 seats, 2 on one side of the train 1 on the other… Any advise how to select the seats myself and the side I should choose to be on the best panoramic view from Lucern to Interlaken?

The seat reservation for the PE Luzern Interlaken was recently made available through SBB. The seat reservation system is not yet as sophisticated as it should be.

The train is not operated by SBB yet by its subsidiary, Zentralbahn.
For your specific request, I suggest to use the train operator’s seat reservation system which you can find here; it comes with a seat map:

And, small insider tip: take seats at the right hand side in travel direction. It is the side offering better views.

I honestly would not bother with a reservation on Luzern - Interlaken. Just walk to the head of the train and find yourself some free seats there.

But if you do, the lower seats are the best.
