Change trains?

I am booking a ticket from Zurich airport to Bregenz. If I leave the default of no refund or exchange, the ticket apperas to show a direct train. If, however, I select the extra charge for refund or exchange possible, the ticket seems to change to one train to St Margrethen and then another to Bregenz. Do we actually need to change trains if our ticket is refundable?

You will have two tickets, one for Switzerland and one for Austria, but it is the same train, you don’t need to change at the border station.

Lucoawai79 Ah, I see now that the variable that makes the trip appear to be broken is using the half fare card AND selecting refundable. Is it perhaps only “housekeeping” in that only the Swiss portion is half price making it appear to be two separate trains?

It is very common now that you have separate tickets for each country, but it is impossible to give an overview of all possible combinations. International tariffs are no more transparent and you must trust what the system offers.
