Centovalli class upgrade

Hello, I intend to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass in 2nd class for our family’s June journey starting in Lake Como to Zermatt (and beyond). However, I just noticed on the Centovalli website from Locarno to Domodossola that all the 2nd class seat reservations are sold out, and just a few left in 1st class. Leading me to think that I better reserve seats soon. However, since our STP will be 2nd class, how do I upgrade the reservation for just this leg to 1st class? I don’t see the option on the Centovalli website for this, and I’m not sure if it will pop up on SBB. Can I do it on board the train? We have a tight connection in Locarno.

You can get the class upgrade at the station. That does not have to be Locarno, it can be any other station in Switzerland at a time of your convenience.

Note it is unlikely that all seats are reserved. Most likely not all seats on that train can be reserved. Those trains are used by locals to go about their daily business, and they never reserve either. (Imagine having to reserve a seat to go to school for example…)

Thank you. However we are coming from Varenna, Italy and have tight connections - thus we will not be able to purchase the class upgrade in a Swiss station beforehand. Can I purchase the upgrade online somewhere?

Considering most of the trains on this Friday have sold out 2nd class and half sold-out 1st class, I don’t want to risk not having a seat - my 2 kids will be so exhausted.

Speaking of kids… do you believe that 6 minute transit time in Domodossola and 8 minutes in Brig is enough with kids and luggage?
