After I purchase the saver day pass, can I use all the public transportation facilities within Switzerland for free within one natural day, including trains, buses and ferries within the same city and between cities? 2. After I have purchased the saver day pass, can I bring a child under 16 years old along and use the family card to enjoy free access to public transportation facilities? 3.If I need to take a train to travel to other countries, can this saver day pass be used to offset the train fares within Switzerland, or do I need to purchase a new full journey train ticket? For instance, when I travel from Zurich to Paris, do I need to purchase a separate train ticket for the journey within France or should I buy a full ticket covering the entire route from Zurich to Paris? 1) YES. With the exception of mountain excursions. See the validity map:

2) NO. The Family Card is only available for Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card holders. In your case, you can purchase the Junior Card for CHF 30, valid for 1 year, at the SBB travel center (for tourists, it is not available online).

3) NO. Day Passes cannot be combined with international fares. You need two separate tickets to/from the border. Or, get yourself an international ticket from a station in Switzerland, it can be the cheaper option.

We have two adults and a 13-year-old child. If the child wants to use the family card, does it require both adults to have the swiss travel pass or swiss half fare card as you mentioned, or just one of them having it is sufficient? And how can the child obtain the family card?

If you however get the HFC, and use that to get a discounted Saver Day Pass then you can indeed let your child accompany you for free if you also have the Family Card.

You get the family card automatically if at least one parent buys the Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass. You just add the child to the purchase and ticket the box where you confirm that they will also be accompanied by the parent.

Otherwise you can also just buy the Junior Card (30,- CHF) once you are here. Gives the same benefits.

Another issue is that in your reply, you mentioned the Junior Card. The significance of this card is that when we only purchased the saver day pass and did not acquire the family card, could children use this card to enjoy free transportation services as well? How long is the validity period of this card? Can it only be purchased offline?
