Swiss Half Fare Card / Family Card on TGV trains

Hi, I want to purchase tickets for geneva to Paris. I have a swiss half fare card for my husband and I as well as the swiss family card for my 8 year old. When I went to purchase the tickets, I selected half fare for my husband and I but what discount do I select for my daughter? There was no option to select swiss family card. I do not want to buy the wrong thing and be in trouble when our tickets are checked. Thank you for any help.

You have to select the ‘Junior Card’ option.

The Junior Card is the resident equivalent of the Swiss Family Card.

Sorry, but these Swiss cards are not valid in France. You must buy separate tickets:

— From your departure station in Switzerland to Geneva with the cards.
— From Geneva to Paris without the cards. Other discounts may be available, depending on the date and time of departure.

Are you sure? I don’t think that Swiss Family Cards are valid in the TGV Lyria:

Lyria & SBB child fare (4 to 15 years inclusive)**

Danhiel they are valid for a direct ticket from geneva to Paris (well, at least the half fare card, i don’t know about the family card & that’s what I’m asking about). When you go to buy the ticket, there is an option to select what swiss discount cards you have. They do not cut the price in half but they do apply a discount.

I’m not sure that Swiss Half Fare Cards are valid in the TGV Lyria, I see only the SBB travelcards:

SBB travelcards: discounts of up to 20% on Standard and Première

A Half Fare Travelcard is for Swiss residents and a Swiss Half Fare Card for tourists.

Ahammer I have the same question as you. I am buying a TGV Lyria Paris-Zurich direct ticket. It clearly shows the option to selection Swiss Half Card, but for my child, it doesn’t show a Swiss Family Card or equivalent option. The fare shows a 15% discount when I add the Swiss Half Fare Card for the adults. What discount should be chosen for the child who has a Swiss Family Card?

Danhiel I don’t know where but i read that the half fare gives a 15% discount. When I go through the purchase in the SBB app, there is a price difference with half fare cards entered and going through it with “no discount card” entered. And the price is different depending on what I enter for the discount card for my daughter. The tvg website links to buy the tickets either from SBB or the French rail system (you choose which one) so they must apply if SBB is applying a discount.

I checked the tariff, and yes indeed, Swiss Travel System products do not grant any discounts for border-crossing tickets on TGV; it is valid to the border station only.

@Ahammer While the Swiss Half Fare Card benefits from the same discounts in Switzerland, for international travel it depends on the country.

Unfortunately international tariffs are not published and I cannot give you an official answer.

I don’t see any confirmation on the TGV Lyria site that these cards are valid, I therefore conclude that they are not valid.

The Junior Card.

The Swiss Half Fare Card and the Swiss Family Card are NOT applicable for border crossing trips by TGV.

The discount is only applied on the Swiss stretch, Basel SBB to Zürich. Thus, you have to split the tickets Paris-Basel without the discount declaration / Basel to Zurich with discount.

Please note that the translation of “Abonnement” is “Travelcard”, this is a subscription used primarly by Swiss residents. This Half Fare Travelcard is valid for one year and should not be confused with the Swiss Half Fare Card for tourists valid for one month.
