Hello
I’m traveling from 18 Oct to 23 oct from Appenzell to Grindelwald to include the Glacier Express.

I’m trying to make sense how to get from my hotel in Appenzell to Chur, but there are so many transfers.
Is there an easier way?

Also, I would need to get off the Glacier Express in Andermatt to connect to my final destination.
Can you please help me?

Appenzell-Gossau or St.Gallen-Chur - [Glacier Express]. Very easy, two changes!

For Grindelwald, you would have to get off at Visp, not Andermatt. Why Andermatt?

Sorry, it is not possible to help you. The Glacier Express is not running during this period and replacement buses are in service due to engineering works on the line. You cannot avoid the transfers:

Appenzell - Herisau - Chur - Disentis/Mustér - bus - Andermatt - bus - Realp - Visp - Spiez - Interlaken Ost - Grindelwald, 9 h 40 min.

An alternative route would be Appenzell - Herisau - Arth-Goldau - Lucerne - Interlaken Ost - Grindelwald.

Thank you for pointing this out, but I see the train to Gossau has a RED I, indicating there is an issue
with that route? I should take the one in the direction of Trogen, correct?
Oh I was not thinking about going further down to VISP. I did see Brig, but Visp is not on the route list on Glacier Express website. Will it stop at visp?
With these mulitple trains, I can get the half price pass and the saver day pass, it would be more economical for me right? All these trains will require separate purchases and the saver day pass will be accepted right?

No, you never need separate purchases. Even if a trip would involve 100 different trains you would still only need one ticket.

So just look up the timetable of what you want to do, and purchase a ticket. If a Saver Day Pass is available at a lower price than the ticket would cost it will be offered.

You can click on the information to find more details. It is also possible to take the train to Trogen and change in St. Gallen. The online timetable gives you the best route, depending on the departure time.

Ok now I’m more confused, you said I only need one ticket? on the SBB site I can purchase Glacier Express?
My trip involves glacier express and roland guided how I can do that. It does involve SBB trains but I was under the impression the glacier express is a separate ticket train ticket and mandatory reservation right?

You need a reservation for the Glacier Express itself. For the rest you need a ticket that covers the route, and those tickets are just transport tickets according to the national tariff. So you would need a ticket Appenzell - Grindelwald via Chur, Disentis and Brig (or Visp). But probably a Saver Day Pass will be the best option for that travel day.

But you do not need a separate ticket for the Glacier Express, just the reservation.

Reservations are not necessary if you travel with regional trains and replacement buses. No Glacier Express trains operate from mid-October to the beginning of December (see my above post).
