reading the displayed price correctly

Greetings,
I’m reading the price on the upper left corner in black, that’s the price with the swiss half fare card correct?
It reads 41.40 and the full fare 61chf. This is from appenzell to grindelwald in October.

I haven’t bought the SHF pass yet but when I do will this price come up $41.40? Without it, at check out it comes up 61 CHF. The website knows what discount to give me once I purchase the SHF pass right?

I’m trying to determine if this is the correct fare and I don’t need to buy a super saver card for 49 chf. for this day.
I’ve read I really don’t need to buy the SHF in advance but in this case, I’m not sure if fares will go up, do you think?

The price of 49 CHF is for the direct route via Zürich - Bern. If you travel via Chur - Andermatt - Visp, you must first select the timetable, for example:

The Saver Day Pass is the cheapest ticket for 61 CHF (Full fare without Half Fare Card). You can also buy it directly here to avoid the search of timetable:

NO!, this is not checked during the ticket purchase process. If planning to get a SHFC. you have to set the correct discount option yourself in your passenger details. This allows you to buy Saver Day Passes well in advance at discounted prices, before already having the SHFC. The latter (and its validity period) is ONLY required while traveling with discounted tickets, NOT for buying them.

This is the route I saw, it’s 4 hrs and 23 mins. The price is 41.60 but at check out it’s 61. So I am confused
about reading this correctly.

Thank you for this information, I ordered the saver day pass for my group of 4, 3 are Deaf. Is there a way
I can forward each of their own ticket to have on their phone? I tried looking on the mobile phone app and couldn’t find a way. Are screen shots acceptable? From other posts, the SHF pass can be purchased when we arrive and does not require advance purchasing.
Also, I’m learning there are so many different ways to get from Appenzell to Gindelwald via a scenic route. Is there one without a bus transfer? This is for Saturday Oct. 18.

In other discussions you explained us that you want to travel on the Glacier Express line. Did you change your mind and do you want now to travel via Zürich and Bern? This ticket would not be valid on the GE line and you would pay a huge difference. The price depends on the distance. If you want to travel on the GE line buy a Saver Day Pass, I give you again the link:

I would still buy a Saver Day Pass, so you could choose any other route. I suggest:

Appenzell - Herisau - Arth-Goldau - Luzern - Interlaken - Grindelwald. You will take two scenic lines:

do the connections to include the voralpen express and the zentralbahn? When I look at the sbb website I can’t tell which are the scenic train routes?

To search the Voralpen Express between Appenzell and Lucerne you must add Rapperswil and Arth-Goldau:

But, unfortunately, as indicated in my previous post, you will have also replacement buses on some parts of the route if you travel on October, 18th. Usually you have direct trains from Herisau to Lucerne.

Between Lucerne and Grindelwald you must add Meiringen as via (but also with a replacement bus from this station to Interlaken).

But you could still consider the GE line in regional trains instead of panoramic train. You will have only two changes more (Disentis/Mustér and Andermatt) and you will spare the reservation fees.

Yes, someone originally suggested that but then someone else said the GE is not in service.
The GE stops running on 11.10.25. So I can still take regional trains for the same route as the GE? You solved my confusion if that’s the case.
This was the reason I was looking at alternate scenic routes because the GE stops operating on my travel date.
OK, I think I’m happy now. 😀

You have a line between Chur - Andermatt - Brig and regional trains are running all year round about every hour. The line could be closed for maintenance works, but, in this case, replacement buses are available. The only exception is when the line is closed due to snow avalanches or landslides, but this is unpredictable.

Glacier Express trains are additional trains for tourists, with panoramic windows and catering. These trains don’t operate from mid-October to December.

If you take the regional trains, carriages are less comfortable and you must change twice, but you will see the same landscape on the same line.
