I commute from Geneva to Basel regularly… this week of September 1, 2025 has been particularly challenging for me as the train for Brig at 6:05 from Geneva has been either delayed (September 2) or didn’t show (today September 4). For technical reasons …as this seems to happen fairly often over this year.
The result, I missed my connection in Renens… arrival in Basel roughly 50 min late… still on route for today’s train.
The direct trains from Geneva to Basel (6:13 am) are long gone, then the direct trains to Zurich from Geneva (6:13 am), with a change in Biel or Olten for Basel are gone too. Now I have an additional stop in Renens… to catch the ICN5, but what is the point of this extra stop if the train of 6:05 to Brig doesn’t get there on time?
I have to wait 30 min, or get the one to Bern 30 min later? Where are the efforts to ease the flow of passengers, and the timetable efficiency. I wonder about the quality of the equipment for Brig, that seems seriously old and having often technical issues…
This is my journey today… still continuing… as eventually I will get to my destination.
