Swiss Pass refundable

Hi,
I am travelling to Switzerland in December this yr, and was planning to buy a 15 day Swiss Pass for the same. While I was initially planning on buying it there itself, my Visa requirements mentions purchasing it earlier to show the Swiss Embassy. My question is whether this pass would be refundable, in case my visa application is rejected.

The Swiss Pass is refundable. But do first register on the site (as a non-resident) so that this can be done easier.
However I find it odd that you would need a Swiss Pass for your Visa application. If you were planning eg a trip to London would you be required to buy tickets for the London Underground in advance as well?
