Can I buy the Swiss Travel Pass directly at ZRH airport on the spot?

Good evening, I will be arriving in Zurich on September 15th, heading to Lucerne. I ask, can I buy the Swiss Travel Pass directly at the airport and use it immediately on the way to Lucerne?

Yes, you can.
See the opening times of the ticket office; they are open until 21:00 (9 PM).

The only disadvantage I see when doing so, Swiss Travel Passes purchased at the station are coming as paper tickets; in case of loss, there is no replacement possible.

But on the other hand you’re avoiding all the hassle with Visa cards not working online or refund fees (this community is literally flooded with such stories) when getting the STP once you really made it successfully to Switzerland.

Hint:
The regular full fare ticket from the airport to Lucerne main station costs 31.- (without local buses). So it’s up to you to decide, whether sacrificing one full STP day only for that journey makes sense, or rather getting that ticket separately combined with a smaller/cheaper STP package (if available).
