Infant on bus ride to Gruyères

I am buying the 15 days STP. One of the place that we want to go is Gruyures on the chocolate train. A bus ride is a part if the journey and according to the MOB website we need to bring a car seat for our baby to board the bus ride to Gruyures. Looks like we will be denied the entry into the bus. Is there any other way that we can travel to Gruyores? Thank you.

Yes, you can travel with regular trains. Search a timetable to “Gruyères” (cheese factory). You can take a bus to “Gruyères, ville” or walk to visit the medieval town on the hill.

The station for the chocolate factory is “Broc-Chocolaterie”. Your STP is valid, but it seems not possible to reserve time slots in advance with this pass. You should except waiting times.

I would not bother with the Chocolate Train. In the past it was something special, using heritage stock. Right now it is nothing more than an organised tour that doesn’t involve any special trains. It is an overpriced tourist trap.

So just go to Gruyere (and Brock) on your own, using regular public transport. All that is included in your pass.

Krist thank you for your reply. Just want to understand this better since we are bringing an infant. You are saying that we can just do the whole trip to Gruyere and to Brock before returning back to Montreux with just the regional train alone? No bus ride will be needed? Correct?

You will have a bus ride only from Gruyères station to the town. It takes only 3 minutes and no special equipment is required. Otherwise you have only trains.

The bus ride is necessary because they are no more able to run a special chocolate train to Broc. The reason is that the track was converted from narrow gauge (1,000 mm) to standard gauge (1,432 mm) between Bulle and Broc. Another reason is probably that a special train is too expensive compared with a bus.
