epg the train was cancelled.
then i bought another non-direct ticket to my destination.
You should never open your wallet because of something the railway did. When a train is cancelled your ticket is not cancelled. So if you for example have a ticket form Zurich to Geneva for 24.9, 15:32, and that train gets cancelled your ticket is still a ticket for travel from Zurich to Geneva. So you can just taken another train.
And if some event blocks a route, and you need to take a different route, then your ticket is valid for that different route.
So when something happens, first talk to a railway staff member. You basically should never have to buy another ticket. in some cases you may have to exchange your ticket at the ticket office, but you never need to pay again.
