EURAIL Pass

Dear Community members,

I plan to use EURAIL pass in Switzerland during my 3 days stay. I would like to mention that I’ll taking SBB trains only(no panaromic train) to explore Christmas markets of Montreux, Basel and Lucerne from Zurich in November end.

Eurail pass seems to be economical when compared with Saver day pass( which is non refundable) and Swiss travel pass.

I would like to be sure that travel is possible within Switzerland Eurail pass. Do we need seat reservation on any type of the train(except panaromic trains).

Further, any recommendations for chairlift and toboggan that I can do in Eurail pass.

Lastly, I wanted to experience steepest funicular in stoos but unfortunately its closed in November end and in December start.

You will find an area of validity map here. You have 25% or 50% discounts on some mountain excursions. Included are Mürren (only via Grütschalp), Wengen and Grindelwald (but not Kleine Scheidegg).

Thanks for sharing information.
I read through the articles but need further clarity whether seat reservation on IC,ICE and EC trains is optional or compulsory pls?

On Rail planner application shows its optional, screengrab attached.

Further, I will take flexible Eurail pass so want to understand how to activate pass on day of travel pls.

Any suggestions on chairlift and toboggan.

In Switzerland, seats reservations are optional and useless, except for some panoramic trains.

Hi there

You can ride chairlift and run down in a topogan at a lot of places in the mountains. However, there is a high chance that there will not be enough snow if the place you plan to go to is not at a very high altitude. None of Montreux, Basel and Lucerne or Zürich are really in the mountains, your best chances are around Montreux but I do not know of any chairlift which is included in the EURAIL pass near Montreux.
