The train was canceled and I stayed at the station for the whole night

I am the owner of a night pass. I had a trip, Lucerne - Zurich at 1:00 am. The Lucerne-Tug train was canceled for apparently technical reasons. And I stayed for the whole night freezing at the station (And after that I had to buy a separate ticket, Lucerne - Zurich, because this route now does not fall under the coverage of the night pass. I wonder if this is a normal practice, or are such cases compensated, at least by the cost of the ticket that I was forced to buy after the cancellation?

In this case you can obtain a refund of a hotel night and continue on the next day with the same ticket. Too late for the hotel night, but I would ask for a refund of the ticket. In my opinion, staff should be available until the last train of the day in a major station like Lucerne and assist you in such situations. You can submit a complaint here:

Due to construction works, the trains are replaced by busses late night. It is clearly stated on the big departure board in the station’s main hall.
