Hello, I have a question about what is the best pkg of tickets to purchase: family of 4 (all over 17), on 12/27 we need to go from GVA airport to Zinal, then back to Geneva on 12/30. We fly home from GVA on 1/2. I've looked at the multi-day packages but none seem to fit - either too few days or too much. Any advice? Also do we need to reserve in advance? Thanks!

You can search the timetable and you will find the different prices.

Between Geneva and Zinal, you cannot buy discounted tickets. Saver Day Passes are too expensive on this day and you cannot use Supersaver Tickets because you don’t know if the flight will arrive on time. It is not necessary to buy regular point-to-point tickets in advance and no reservation is needed, you can also purchase them after your arrival in Switzerland.

Between Zinal and Geneva, you can buy Supersaver Tickets, but you must take the selected buses/trains, or you can buy Saver Day Passes and take every bus/train on this day. Note that discounted tickets must be purchased in advance to obtain the best prices and they are not refundable, except the FLEX tickets ( Refund 50%).

Thank you! T o expand a bit - would it be worthwhile to buy, let’s say a 6 day pass? Or just do one day tickets on the days we need? And based on your info- no need to really buy anything in advance? Just purchase at the airport when we get there? Does my question make sense?

Why to buy a 6 day pass? Do you want to travel in Switzerland or do you want to stay in Zinal?

We are 2 days in Zinal and then 2 days in Geneva with a travel day in between.

In that case a 6-day pass is very much not worth it. It would allow you to on all 6 days travel on the entirety of Switzerland’s public transport network which you do not need. The cheapest option is probably to just get direct tickets from Geneva Airport to Zinal and additional Tickets as needed. If you are staying in a hotel in Geneva, chances are that you will get a pass issued by the hotel which will include the public transport within the city of Geneva and its surroundings that should suffice. Even if you intend on going somewhere from Zinal, it will be a lot cheaper to just buy the tickets individually.

Thanks very much for the advice! Yes, that does seem to make the most sense. Does it make any difference if I buy in advance for the airport to Zinal trip and Zinal to Geneva trip? Do we want to reserve seats or anything like that?

No, there is no difference between bought-online or from the ticket machine for the regular ticket. There should be plenty of ticket machines at Geneva Airport station, maybe even an SBB office.
If you intend on getting a super-saver’s ticket, those can only be bought online. But beware of what @Danhiel wrote about the conditions.
There is probably no need to reserve seats - it’s not required and you are boarding on the first stop of the train (at Geneva Airport), so there should be no issues to find seats without a reservation.
