Question on Swiss Travel Pass

Hi all, need some help. Am travelling to Switzerland for 8 days. Spending 3 days in Zurich, 2 in Luzern and 3 days in Grindenwald. So will be taking the trains from Zurich to Luzern, then Luzern to Grindenwald, then Grindenwald back to Zurich. During the stays in each of the places, will be taking trams etc. Would it be cheaper to book individually per trip or purchase the 8 day Swiss Travel pass? I know it would be more convenient but the travel pass equates to about 80 swiss francs per day

The Swiss Travel pass is not worth it for your case. For single direct journeys, it might barely be worth it. But within the cities, you might even get a Tourist Voucher Card which includes the local transit. It is not that hard to buy individual tickets; either online or at a ticket machine. In the case that your hotel does not provide you with a tourist transit pass, you can also buy local daypasses at around 15.- per day and person for adults. For the transits, you can check if there are supersaver tickets avaliable. Those are cheaper, but non-refundable and you are bound to a specific train (regular tickets are valid on any direct connection the day the ticket is valid for).

If you plan on doing a lot of mountain excursions getting the Half Fare Card may be worth it. It costs 120,- for a month, but gives you 50% off not only on public transit, but also on mountain railways and cable cars.
