Change dates of Train Ticket booked through airline

Hi,

I have booked an international flight ticket with final destination Geneva. My final flight will be to Zurich and I have to take the train to Geneva but I would like to change the date of my train tickets to spend some time in Zurich as well as to not miss the train or my flight on both ways. I have a SBB confirmation code from my airline who said I should check with them for changes. Do you think this would be feasible?

It is possible to travel a day later, but not days later.

Your AIR RAIL ticket is valid for a period of 3 days:

1 day before the scheduled arrival;
the arrival day itself;
1 day after the scheduled arrival day.

It is an open ticket for scheduled arrival day (ir a day before/after), you can take any train on that day (even hours after arrival in Zurich), or the day after, but not any time later in the week.

If you want to do so, you must change your entire flight booking to reflect a stopover in Zurich (as you were required to do if the entire trip was airbased).

The train ticket is part of your flight tcket and boarding pass; SBB cannot alter an AIR RAIL ticket.

Another good thing to know: When you book Plane + Train the train schedule on your ticket is often even a fake one, a service that is only created in the booking system because train tickets are conceptually different from plane tickets, and the GDS does not deal well with that.

Personally I think that the system as SBB has set up with the Airlines is flawed. It would have been better if they packaged a Saver Day Pass with a Plane Ticket in stead of only offering AirRail to a limited number of destinations.

It would mean, SBB would need the SWISS customer’s information to issue & e-mail the Saver Day Pass upfront while the Air Rail ticket is simply another leg of a multi-leg IATA air travel ticket. It is a boarding pass sort of ticket. And it can only be used provided the customer has done the SWISS (online) check-in before travel, in particular when the first leg is by rail. Otherwise, the ticket is not valid for train travel. Thus, it is linked with the customers airline itinerary.

That is not necessary. Just look up the train you want to take on sbb-tickets.cc and take it. There is no need to exchange ir modify the ticket. The ticket is for a route, not a train.

When you check in for your flight you will be given a “boarding pass” for the train which serves as a train ticket. This train ticket is valid for your arrival day, an the day afterwards, for one trip from ZRH to Geneva.
