Would you like a self-service area?

Dear Community member.

We’re sure you know the feeling: you board the train then realise you’ve forgotten your water or had no time for lunch – and of course, there’s no dining car on your route.

This is why we want to introduce the idea of a self-service area on the train. What do you think of that? Would you use this service? Share your opinion – we’d love to hear it!

Your feedback is important. We are actively seeking new ideas from the Community to incorporate into the planning and implementation of new trains. 🔽

SBBCFFFFS Ein Self-Service Area wäre durchaus interessant zusätzlich zum Speisewagen oder dort wo es keinen Speisewagen gibt, aber keineswegs als Ersatz. So wie es etwa im Treno Gottardo bereits angeboten wird finde ich gut.

Es wäre von Vorteil, würde man dort Heissgetränke erhalten sowie “sinnvolles” zu essen, nicht nur Schokoriegel und Chips, sondern auch etwas grösseres/ausgewogenes für den Hunger.

On intercity or interregio trains I prefer a dining car to a self-service option. However, a self-service opton on an S-Bahn train would be great

I think it’s important that a self service area is never a replacement for a restaurant/bistro car. I find it very important that there is a human touch to onboard catering, and I will always prefer that to a vending machine. However, I do recognise that on some trains (like regional trains and S-Bahnen) a vending machine could be a perfect alternative. Also, what would be a fantastic addition to a self service area is a drinking water tap. That way people can fill up their own bottles without wasting plastic!
