Hallo ayseeoncll
I have never seen a university from the inside yet I have done two apprenticeships follwing the dual education Switzerland is well-known for. And I do see your point. However, I am far from being calling the situation unfair.
In the past, there was a GA for students, available solely for university students up to 30 years of age. Everybody else who was on training yet not immatriculated at a Swiss university, such as me, could not benefit from this discounted ticket. It was discriminatory, especiallly under the aspects that students do benefit from a lot of other discounts and scholarships, that all contribute to financial relief, other youth following a different education cannot take advantage of.
Then, in 2020, finally, the GA for Youth was introduced available for all young people, not only for university students. The argument was, at the age of 25, most students have completed a bachelor, thus they have completed their basic education. And, finally, everyone following an education was now able to get a GA discount until the age of 25. That is, what I, personally, consider as fair. And, I think, at some point in time we have to face the real living costs.
Now coming to study from abroad, yes, Switzerland is an expensive country yet you benefit from excellent possibilties to do your studies. It has a price tag, and one has to be aware of it. This should be part of everyone’s consideration.
Kind regards,
Roland
