Request for Refund – Additional Charge on Luzern to Grindelwald Journey

I would like to request a refund regarding an additional ticket charge on my journey from Luzern to Grindelwald on 27 May 2026.

I had already purchased a valid 1st class reduced fare ticket in the SBB app for the 12:06 connection from Luzern to Grindelwald via Interlaken Ost. The ticket was valid for the exact train and date of travel.

During the ticket inspection, I showed my valid mobile ticket to the conductor. At that time, I was sitting in a 2nd class seat, not in 1st class. However, I was informed that I needed to purchase another ticket, and I was charged an additional CHF 22.90 onboard.

Since I already had a valid ticket for this journey, I believe this additional charge may have been a misunderstanding. I would therefore like to kindly request a review and refund of the extra payment.

I can provide:
• the original SBB mobile ticket,
• the onboard payment receipt,
• and any additional information if needed.

In this Community forum, you are sharing personal details with other travellers on the public Internet, NOT with whatever customer service!
Nevertheless we might be able to explain the reason why the ticket inspector charged you an additional ticket.

The picture of that additional ticket you posted along with the mentioned “reduced fare” mobile ticket you previously bought would indicate that you did not hold a valid Swiss Half Fare Card, which is required for traveling with such a reduced fare ticket.

So do you also have a valid Swiss Half Fare Card for today (you haven’t mentioned it)?
If not, the additional ticket is justified, because without a SHFC you should have purchased a full fare 2nd class ticket for 45.80 (or a full fare 1st class ticket for 78.20, allowing to travel in 2nd, but without refund)

A Spersaver Class Upgrade ticket is not valid for travel as it is not a standalone ticket.

The conductor did not charge the full amount they were supposed to, according to the tariff regulations in place.

The surcharge for a travel with a simple Supersaver Class Upgrade would have been CHF 90 for an invalid ticket plus a new ticket. The guy charged you a 10 CHF service fee plus a ticket instead. You can call yourself a lucky guy.

Did you by any chance buy a “1st class upgrade” ticket? That alone is not sufficient for travel, and would explain why the conductor sold you a 2nd class ticket.
