Bhavya Pramithaa Periasamy Dear Krist, as this train route does not stop at Chiasso, from which point onwards would I need tickets?
If you are travelling per this route:
Bhavya Pramithaa Periasamy Upon searching, this is the fastest train route on the Gotthard line: Interlaken Ost -> Luzern -> Arth Goldau -> Lugano -> Milano Centrale -> Venezia S Lucia
Then your last stop in Switzerland is “Chiasso”. All trains that travel that route stop there. Note that “stop” in railway parlance means something else than it does with air travel. Train travel is very different from air travel. it is mass transit. This is more like taking a subway or commuter train, just at long distance.
A stop just means that the train stops there. Trains make many stops en route. You stay on board the train. You do not need to leave the train, even though you will be travelling on the STP till Chiasso, and on a Trenitalia Ticket form there onwards.
What happens in Luzern, Arth Goldau, Lugano and Milano we call “transfer”. You transfer from one train to another. That just involves walking out of one train and on to another, and is done in minutes.
Note that if a delay makes you miss a train you can take the next one. Just ask help from railway staff if needed. You do not need another ticket.
(Note for the others: When English speakers talk about a stop, they often mean a transfer, eg. Flying from NY to Zurich with a stop in Frankfurt…)
