Identity check on the SBB website

I have been trying to buy a Half fare Swiss travel pass on the SBB website. I am from the USA. I registered with SBB and when I go to buy the half fare pass, I try to perform the Identity check, so I can take a picture of my passport and photo, but the message I get is: ( Identity Check unsuccessful. Unfortunately it was not able to verify your documents. Please go to a public transport ticket counter. Bring a Passport photo and a valid ID.) It is very frustration trying to buy a Swiss half fare card. I wanted to book may train tickets within Switzerland and apply the Swiss Half fare card but I can not perform the Identity check. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

You don’t need to make an identity check for a Swiss Half Fare Card, it is only for Swiss residents with other subscriptions. You have to show your physical passports in the train with your tickets and the card. You can also buy Half Fare Tickets in advance, no check is made if you already have a Half Fare Card. Indicate the discount “Half Fare Travelcard” when adding the passengers.

IF you are asked to go through the identiy check this means that you have somehow gotten misdirected to the page where you purchase the domestic Half Fare Travel Card.

Fore the Half Fare Card for tourists this ID check is not needed.

You do not need to buy tickets in advance, but if you still wish to do so you can indicate that you (will) have the Half Fare Card when purchasing. It is on the train itself that your HFC will be checked.
