Dear SBB Community,
We care a lot about that you travel successfully with SBB. As we expect many customers on our trains in the coming weeks and months (especially over Easter, Ascension and the Whitsunday weekend), we would like to take this opportunity to give you some tips in advance. These will help you travel more relaxed:
- Seat reservation: If you reserve your seat in advance, you can wait calmly on the platform. You have the certainty that your seat is reserved for you. For journeys on IC trains (see more info here), you can benefit from the graphical seat reservation. It is displayed like this:

Train formation: Check the train formation before departure so you can wait at the right spot on the platform. The train formation is also available online before the day of travel (SBB.ch and SBB Mobile).
Avoid peak times: Check the expected train occupancy in advance on SBB.ch or in the SBB Mobile app.
Take extra trains into account:Between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday, SBB is operating a total of 27 additional trains between Ticino and German-speaking Switzerland. We provide extra seats by adding additional carriages or units to trains wherever possible. This also applies to Eurocity services that continue into Italy. In total, we are offering around 70,000 additional seats over the Easter period.
Bike transport (see the dedicated webpage):
A bike-space reservation is generally mandatory. See conditions.
New bike-space reservation:
What you need for bike transport: a) a bike ticket and b) a bike-space reservation.
Please check the conditions for children under and from 6 years old.
New: you can also reserve your bike space graphically now. Here is a short guide (it even shows whether the bike hook is up or down 🙂 pretty cool, right?):
Small bug that will be fixed soon: if the “Choose bike space” button does not appear, briefly remove the red checkmark and set it again. Thanks a lot!
- Luggage drop-off: See here which options are available for your luggage. Traveling without luggage makes travel easier. When changing trains you are more flexible and your journey will be more pleasant 🙂.

Wishing you a good time and a pleasant journey.
